Got home, phoned Barbara and told her I had cancer and then told Bill. Had a hug. Told all the children when they came home from school and then went to the gym with Jean. She's good; she has friends who've had it all, so she's a seasoned pro at hearing people's stuff. It's all very surreal.
Next day at work I spoke to the boss and told him I had breast cancer. He had already been given the gist by Barbara. I learned that my job is safe. All I have to do is take the time off that I need.
The next week through work and home was very slow. Better than waiting a week for test results to show whether I had cancer. Worse than having a clear idea of next steps straight away. So if it is so important to catch cancer early why do they leave you hanging around for a week to give you a plan of action?
My blog is all about me and my journey with breast cancer. It is a diary of 2010 because I first discovered a problem on New Years' Day. If you want to read it in sequence as a story, then go back to my first post in January. I am chronicling events and treatments so that those who know me can discover where I am at, what has been done, and how I am feeling. It saves me repeating details of what's new to everyone I speak to. I had long wanted to be a faithful diarist, and not give up after a wee while. Your occasional comments will be an encouragement to me to continue. Names have been changed to protect the innocent!
